Abstract: By using a song by music artist Harry Nilsson called “Jump Into The Fire” (1971) we will illustrate the proposition that God is the originator of all music. This song has a double meaning. On the natural side is what was created in the mind of the songwriter, Harry Nilsson. There is a spiritual message found within those lyrics from the heart of the Lord Himself.

Back in the sixties and seventies, music fans of rock groups speculated that for some groups if you played some songs backward on the record you could hear subliminal messages. It was spooky even for non-Christians. Of course, the Christian community in America was all up in arms.
In 2013 I wrote a blog article entitled “God is the Originator and Inspiration of All Music”; (link)
If you are able to accept the basic premise of the article, I would like to use an example of a song and how even secular music praises and can cry out with the heart of God.
Let Everything That Has Breath Praise the LORD
Hallelujah!
Praise God in His sanctuary.
Praise Him in His mighty heavens.
Praise Him for His mighty acts;
praise Him for His excellent greatness.
Praise Him with the sound of the trumpet;
praise Him with the harp and lyre.
Praise Him with tambourine and dancing;
praise Him with the strings and flute.
Praise Him with clashing cymbals;
praise Him with resounding cymbals.
Let everything that has breath praise the LORD.
Hallelujah! (Psalm 150:1-6)
Jump Into The Fire 1972 Harry Nilsson
Lyrics
You can climb a mountain, you can swim the sea
You can jump into the fire but you’ll never be free
You can shake me up or I can break you down
Oh, oh
We can make each other happy
Oh, we can make each other happy
We can make each other happy
Oh, we can make each other happy
You can climb a mountain, you can swim the sea
You can jump into the fire but you’ll never be free, no no
You can shake me up or I can break you down
Oh, oh
We can make each other happy
Oh, we can make each other happy
Oh, we can make each other happy
We can make each other happy, oh
You can climb a mountain, you can swim the sea
You can jump into the fire but you’ll never be free, no no
You can shake me up, I can break you down
Oh, oh
Oh, oh
Oh, oh
We can make each other happy
We can make each other happy
We can make each other happy
We can make each other happy
Aah

Besides being a classic of rock music with remarkable composition and instrumentation, Harry’s good friend Ringo Starr jammed out on the music video!.
But the real message of this song is the inspiration found in the words of the lyrics. This, my friend, is an expression of LOVE and longing found in the heart of our LORD. Tenderly and passionately calling all humanity to accept and join Him in His kingdom for all eternity. The free-will choice is up to you, but please, please please make your choice carefully!. I love you.
“Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them is like a wise man who built his house on the rock” (Matthew 7:24).
Why would God enter into a secular written song that some Christians would call evil and devil worship? Because He came for those that are lost!
“What do you think? If a man has a hundred sheep and one of them goes astray, will he not leave the ninety-nine on the hills and go out to search for the one that is lost?” (Matthew 18:12).
This is our humble serving Servant. All the more reason we should worship and adore Him!
