Abstract: The Second Coming of Jesus Christ has historically been one of the most important events of the Christian faith doctrine. Jesus Himself frequently talked about this future event His teachings in the Gospels.
It has been interpreted by many in the Christian church that Jesus Christ will appear in the sky and will call the faithful home to heaven before the final judgment falls upon this world.
Many books have been written describing the “Second Coming“. Most notably Tim LaHaye and the “Left Behind” book series that was immensely popular Christian literature during the 1990s. This is also the prevailing and accepted doctrine in the Christian church regarding the “Second Coming of Jesus Christ“.
This institutional Christian church interpretation of the “Second Coming” event contain some grievous errors
The idea is that Jesus Christ will call his people home to heaven from the sky at the end of the earth as we know it. But as the fictional account in the “Left Behind” books is that indeed millions of people of “Unbelievers” will be “left behind”. If the two pilots flying a passenger plane are Christians and taken home, what will happen? The plane will crash and the passengers will perish in a terrifying crash.
If Christians are driving their cars on the freeway, and they are suddenly called home, what will happen? The motorists “left behind” will be involved in massive pile-ups. Hundreds of thousands across the world will be killed and their bodies maimed.
The utter chaos of an event like this (“Second Coming“) taking place could crush the world economy. Food distribution could come to a screeching halt. It could trigger world wars or conflicts. Rioting and looting could break out in city streets. Law and order could completely break down.
Let me ask you this, do you think the Lord Jesus Christ would allow such destruction and harm come to innocent people? Are the people of the Christian faith so pompous and proud to think they have more value more than the so called “heathen people” who are “left behind”?
The Christian church has cast an enormous shadow of doubt on the character and personality of Jesus Christ in this view of the “Second Coming”. Have we so soon forgot that He Himself came to the world and showed Himself as He really is? What did He say about Himself in the Bible? Jesus asked they very question to His disciples.
“Jesus went to the area of Caesarea Philippi. He said to his followers, “Who do people say I am?” (Matthew 16:13)
He said, He loves everyone equally. There is no favoritism. In fact, He said that one lost “heathen” sinner is a more important priority than the members of His church who have already chosen to be with Him forever,
“Many tax collectors and sinners came to listen to Jesus. Then the Pharisees and the teachers of the law began to complain, “Look, this man welcomes sinners and even eats with them!” Then Jesus told them this story: “Suppose one of you has 100 sheep, but one of them gets lost. What will you do? You will leave the other 99 sheep there in the field and go out and look for the lost sheep. You will continue to search for it until you find it. And when you find it, you will be very happy. You will carry it home, go to your friends and neighbors and say to them, ‘Be happy with me because I found my lost sheep!’ In the same way, I tell you, heaven is a happy place when one sinner decides to change. There is more joy for that one sinner than for 99 good people who don’t need to change” (Luke 15:1-7)
Why in the world would someone so loving, so kind, and so merciful want to see millions of innocent people murdered and harmed when they are “left behind” in the so-called Christian “Second Coming” of Jesus Christ?
“Dear friends, we should love each other, because love comes from God. Everyone who loves has become God’s child. And so everyone who loves knows God. Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love” (1 John 4:7-8)
“Surely you know the truth. Surely you have heard. The LORD is the God who lives forever! He created all the faraway places on earth. He does not get tired and weary. You cannot learn all he knows. He helps tired people be strong. He gives power to those without it” (Isaiah 40:28-29)
The Second Coming of Jesus Christ is not a natural event that will occur in the natural world. It is a spiritual event that will take place in heaven and manifest itself spiritually on the earth, and in the church in particular.
May I also suggest a reading of “The Harvest” by Rick Joyner and “The Vision of the Body of Christ, and the End Time Ministries” by Tommy Hicks (1961) to further illustrate these truths. PDF Download;
