There is no Devil or Satan, Part 2

I received an email from someone who read my blog post
“There is no Devil or Satan”. The (good) question was;
“If what you say is true, why did Jesus say in Luke 10:18
“I beheld Satan as lighting fall from heaven?” This is
my best answer and conclusion in trying to follow
the instructions to; “Do your best to be the kind of
person God will accept, and give yourself to him. Be a worker
who has no reason to be ashamed of his work, one who
applies the true teaching in the right way” 2Ti 2:15 ERV.

The word “Lighting” occurs 4 times in the New Testament.

#1. And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning
(Strongs 796 = “Glare”) fall from heaven. Luk 10:18 KJV.

The verse just before this is; “And the seventy returned
again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject
unto us through thy name” Luk 10:17 KJV. The disciples
returned and in astonishment reported to Jesus the devils
obeyed when commanded in the name of Savior God. Of
course they realized in and of themselves they were powerless.
Jesus said to them, “I saw Satan falling like lightning from
the sky. Luk 10:18 ERV. Jesus gives a first person, singular
of what He saw when He looked at Satan. He actually
tells of His observation of the reaction Satan had. The
holiness and glory that God emitted made the devil see
a “glare”. Much like if you are driving a car into the sunset.
The glare from the sun is blinding to look at directly. This
evil force in no way, shape or form could ascend near to
where God abode.

“For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven,
I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit
also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of
the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds;
I will be like the most High” Isa 14:13-15 KJV.

This sinful nature in man disregards God. It’s natural
course is to attempt to rise up and try to become a god.
Love of self. Pride. “A proud look, A lying tongue, Hands
that shed innocent blood, A heart that devises wicked plots,
Feet that are swift to run into mischief, A deceitful witness
that uttereth lies, Him that soweth discord among brethren”
Prov 6:17-19. This is the Devil the Scriptures speak of.

The Devil is pride. Satan is love of self, and rising above
others. Those characteristics are found in the human
heart, the sinful nature.

So what I am trying to convey is if we rightly divide the
Word of God, there is no supreme commander and leader
of hell called the Devil or Satan. This is NOT to say there is
no devils or demons in hell. They are there. They are
very real to us. They are a threat to us, but only if we
allow it.

Our New Testament if full of instructions to follow the
narrow path of life. “Jesus answered, “I am the way,
the truth, and the life. The only way to the Father is
through me” Joh 14:6 ERV. We are to pick up our
cross and follow Him daily. “Finally, my brethren, be
strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might” Eph 6:10.

While the Christian is alive in this world, and cloaked
with this body, we are walking in a purgatory between
heaven and hell. It is called a narrow path, because we
are walking in a mine field. The battlefield is the mind.
When temptations, trials and tribulations unfold before us,
how do we react? Do we ascend into the cross and the
blood of Jesus, or give in and descend to the wishes of hell?

What about when times are good? When are walking in
the prosperity and blessing of God? Is the pink cloud we
are riding on just a trap door to fall from if we forget where
all the blessings came from in the first place?

Hebrews chapter 11 records the deeds of those who choose
not to live in a season of pleasure and sin; “And others had
trial of cruel mockings and scourgings, yea, moreover of bonds
and imprisonment: They were stoned, they were sawn asunder,
were tempted, were slain with the sword: they wandered about
in sheepskins and goatskins; being destitute, afflicted,
tormented; (Of whom the world was not worthy:) they
wandered in deserts, and in mountains, and in dens and caves
of the earth” Heb 11:36-38 KJV.

The ascribing of sin to a supreme commander called the
Devil or Satan is a sad and grave error. Like the serpent in
the garden of God;

“And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every
tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the
tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of
knowledge of good and evil” Gen 2:9 KJV. “Now the serpent
was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD
God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God
said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?, For God
doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes
shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing
good and evil” Gen 3:1,5 KJV.

What where the first words out of Eve’s mouth afterward,
when in the presence of God? (You might say) “The Devil
made me do it!!”. Oh my, can anyone give me an AMEN??

These are two errors in doctrine of the Christian church

1) At the cross, Jesus took our sins away. When God the
Father looks at us, He sees only His Son. This atonement
is our redemption and salvation. We are made “white
as snow”.

The problem with this is it splits God into three separate
entities. Each one has it’s own distinct existence. This
fractures truth and dissipates God’s love and glory. It
waters down the “good news” of the gospel. The Son
of Man and The Son of God formed a bridge at the cross.
All of the universe marveled at the LOVE that could perform
such a thing. But we are called on to do our part in salvation through regeneration.

“And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and
by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their
lives unto the death” Rev 12:11 KJV. They lived according
to the Word of God in faith. They trusted in the cross to
deliver them. They lost their lives, only to gain it back
again. To the seven churches of Revelation it is promised
to each one of them; “..He that overcometh..”. Not,
He that trusted in the cross for atonement.

We have to look deep into our hearts and say; “But we are
all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as
filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities,
like the wind, have taken us away” Isa 64:6 KJV. The
Devil is not something foreign and outside of me, it is
something that is part of me, and is inside of me.

“And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose
you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which
your fathers served that were on the other side of the
flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell:
but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD”
Jos 24:15 KJV.

So then, Luke 10:18 paints a picture of an evil dominated
heart ascending up to try and take the place of God.
To form it’s own. But as oil and vinegar, good and
evil cannot exist together in the kingdom of God. God’s
holiness created such a blinding “glare”, the selfish evil
heart had to descend quickly back to where it belonged.
Into the abyss of eternal hell.

But the Christian heart who “Set your affection on things
above, not on things on the earth” Col 3:2 KJV.
They shall see the Son of Man, and the glare of the
lightening will not blind them.

“Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet
appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall
appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is”
1Jn 3:2.

#2. “For as the lightning (Strongs 796 = “Glare”) cometh
out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall
also the coming of the Son of man be” Mat 24:27 KJV

#3. “His countenance was like lightning (Strongs 796 =
“Glare”) and his raiment white as snow:” Mat 28:3 KJV

#4. “For as the lightning (Strongs 796 = “Glare”) that
lighteneth (Strongs 797 flash as lightning: lighten, shine)
out of the one part under heaven, shineth unto the other
part under heaven; so shall also the Son of man be in his day”
Luk 17:24 KJV

This last verse provides much illumination to the truth.
“For as the lightening (“Glare”) that lighteneth..”
(“lighten, shine”). “Lightening” produces a blinding
glare that obscures the path. But lighteneth provides
light and shines guidance to the path.

One path is for the goats, and one path is for the
sheep; “And before him shall be gathered all nations:
and he shall separate them one from another, as a
shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats”
Mat 25:32 KJV.

There is No Actual Devil or Satan

The Oral Torah and the Kabbalah.

We will start with the Old Testament and those that studied and examined it. To give a

quick synopsis;  According to Jewish tradition, the Oral Torah was passed down orally in

an unbroken chain from generation to generation until its contents were finally committed

to writing following the destruction of the Second Temple in 70 CE, when Jewish

civilization was faced with an existential threat[1]Howard Schwartz, Tree of souls: the

mythology of Judaism, Oxford University Press, 2004. p lv. The whole Talmud consists of

63 tractates, and in standard print isover 6,200 pages long. It is written in Tannaitic

Hebrew and Aramaic. The Talmud contains the teachings and opinions of thousands of

rabbis on a variety of subjects, including Halakha (law), Jewish ethics, philosophy, custom

history, lore and many other topics. The Talmud is the basis for all codes of Jewish law

and is much quoted in rabbinic literature.

The Zohar (Hebrew: זֹהַר, lit. Splendor or Radiance) is the foundational work in the

literature of Jewish mystical thought known as Kabbalah. 2[Scholem, Gershom and Melila

Hellnershed. “Zohar.” Encyclopaedia Judaica. Ed. Michael Berenbaum and Fred Skolnik.

Vol. 21. 2nd ed. Detroit: Macmillan Reference USA, 2007. 647664. The Zohar first

appeared in Spain in the 13th century, and was published by a Jewish writer named Moses

de Leon.De Leon ascribed the work to Shimon bar Yochai(“Rashbi”), a rabbi of the 2nd

century during the Roman persecution[3] who, according to Jewish legend,][4][5] hid in a

cave for thirteen years studying the Torah and was inspired by the Prophet Elijah to write

the Zohar. This accords with the traditional claim by adherents that Kabbalah is the

concealed part of the Oral Torah. [Jacobs, Joseph; Broydé, Isaac. “Zohar”Jewish

Encyclopedia. Funk & Wagnalls Company.]

“The Concealed Part of God’s Word”

So it could be said the Zohar is the search (of Jewish Rabbis) to academically find God

Himself (esse) in the written Word.  Many have called this “mysticism”.  I am not going to

try and write a dissertation, but lay the floor work for an unknown blog article!

The key here is that “..Kabbalah is the concealed part of..” God’s Word.

I am a Swedenborgian in the proposition that God’s revealed Word contains three levels.

The natural, the spiritual and the deepest, highest; the celestial (the inner most circle of

God’s throne). As the Apostle Paul said himself; “I knew a man in Christ above

fourteen years ago, (whether in the body, I cannot tell; or whether out of the body,

I cannot tell: God knoweth;) such an one caught up to the third heaven“. 2Co 12:2 KJV.

So naturally, it follows there must a level one and level two of heaven. The next proposition

is that the Word is spiritual truth and wisdom as well as natural truth and wisdom.  “And

the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the

only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth”. 7Joh 1:14 ESV.  The Glory and the

Spiritual took on the natural.

“You carefully study the Scriptures. You think that they give you eternal life. These same

Scriptures tell about me!” Joh 5:39.  So as Jesus plainly taught, the Word not only

gives natural wisdom, it gives spiritual wisdom unto eternal life.  In summation at the

highest level the “Scriptures tell about me”..(Esse).

We are aware of at least three written Words that have been given to mankind on

the earth.  Two are obvious, the Old Testament and the New Testament.

The othersare least referenced, i.e. “So the sun did not move, and the moon stopped until

the people defeated their enemies. This story is written in the Book of Jashar. The sun

stopped in the middle of the sky. It did not move for a full day” 7Jos 10:13.  “David told

his men to teach the song to the people of Judah. This song is called The Bow, and it is

written in the Book of Jashar” 2Sa 1:18.

Like a mathematical string, theologians and scholars have been searching for the Kabbala

or “The Concealed Part of God’s Word”.  For us as Christians, may I say, we are searching

for “More Love, More Power, More of You in My Life”.  We are searching for the Esse, or

the “I AM” in the Word to fulfill our hearts and our destiny.  It is the culmination

of truth and love, wisdom and charity.  It is the well source for our spirits and our mental

The Movie, “Revolver”, 2005

I would like to use a secular movie to illustrate who the Devil and Satan really are.  The

director ofthe movie at the time (Guy Ritchie) was exploring the concept of Jewish

Kabbala, “the concealed part”.  The main character is Jake (Jason Statham). Two former

cell mates, Avi and Zack attempt to get Jake to understand the nature of the ego.  Which

Avi calls “the greatest con that [the ego]ever pulled was making you believe that he is you.”

This is the ultimate con, no one will ever cut ties with the ego, when they have invested

their whole life and being into it.  At the end of the film (spoiler alert), Jake makes every

effort to resist what his ego is telling him to do.I would propose that this movie plot

illustration is similar to Scripture  teachings, on the Devil and Satan.  “Submit

yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil (ego), and he will flee from you” 7Jas 4:7.

The Ego and the Id

Sigmund Freud introduced these two terms to the study of Psychology.  Again, I am using

secular postulations to illustrate kingdom principles.  Much like the scientific studies of

the universe that allowed us to place men on the moon, there is immutable laws which

frame creation.

In the Book of Proverbs 6:1619, it states “six things the Lord hateth, and seven that are an

abomination unto Him”, namely:  A proud look, A lying tongue, Hands that shed innocent

blood, A heart that devises wicked plots, Feet that are swift to run into mischief, A

deceitful witness that uttereth lies, Him that soweth discord among brethren.

This could easily describe the Id.  The Id is the brains and instigator to set in motion all

kinds of evil and mischief.  It is constantly plotting to get the Ego to do it’s bidding.  This is

the Devil and Satan wrapped up in one evil package.  Now it is plain from Scripture

teachings the Devil is NOT omnipotent and NOT omnipresent.  He is considered our

mortal adversary, antagonist and mortal enemy.

The other partner in crime is no other than OUR OWN ego.  We have this wretched sinful

nature;  “You might think I am saying that sin and the law are the same. That is not true.

But the law was the only way Icould learn what sin means. I would never have known it is

wrong to want something that is not mine. But the law said, “You must not want what

belongs to someone else. And sin found a way to use thatcommand and make me want all

kinds of things that weren’t mine. So sin came to me becausethe command. But without

the law, sin has no power. Before I knew the law, I was alive. But when I

heard the law’s command, sin began to live”.Rom 7:7.ERV.God wrote this Law with His

ownfinger, the Decalogue.  Men such as Paul and Peter ” realized there was absolute moral

kingdom laws. “..when Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, Depart from me;

for I am a sinful man, O Lord” Luk 5:8 KJV.  In the New Testament, Jesus summarized the

Ten Commandments of the law into two; “And Jesus answered him, The first of all the

commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord: And thou shalt love the

Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all

thy strength: this is the first commandment. And the second is like, namely this, Thou

shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these”

Mar 12:29-31 KJV.

So now, this sinful nature (Id) within us was directly confronted.  The question became,

what will the ego do now?  Decisions, decisions.  It is now all about the decisions we make.

Why is the sinful nature (Id) within us become so agitated?  Because, it is the complete

opposite in nature and character compared God’s characteristics and His kingdom

principles when we truly observe them.

What is the sinful nature (Id) composed of?  The love of self, the love of the world and of

the flesh; “Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the

world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh,

and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And

the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for

ever” 1Jn 2:15-17 KJV.

So, can you see that our enemy is not an entity, or high commander of hell named the

Devil or Satan.  It is our own sinful nature (Id).  If we have pride, we think ourselves better

than others.  Even to the extent that we wish to cruelly rule over others.  If we cling to and

love the world, we push out God, and his rightful place.  If we lust within our flesh, we

corrupt the temple and dwelling place of God.  But praise be to God; “Nay, in all these

things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us” Rom 8:37 KJV.

Now here is another kicker, if God will allow me.  Much of the modern Christian church

teaches that on the cross, Jesus took away the sins of the world.  This is a grave error.

Jesus did not take away the sins of the world, He BORE THEM.  Through His sacrifice,

Savior God gives power is available to us to overcome, because He overcome.  “These

things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have

tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world”. Joh 16:33 KJV.

Jesus said; “But the gate that opens the way to true life is narrow. And the road that leads

there is hard to follow. Only a few people find it”. Mat 7:14 ERV.  Our ego is constantly in a

battle to make the right decisions.  It is promised that our (ego) will be tempted, troubled

and in tribulation in this war for our souls.  Samuel Brengle, the first American Salvation

Army General said, “This warfare is as real as the battle of Waterloo and Gettysburg”.  We

have to make a conscious decision every waking moment to follow Jesus, and in the power

of His blood, and the water of His Word.  “Then Jesus said to his followers, “If any of you

want to be my follower, you must stop thinking about yourself and what you want. You

must be willing to carry the cross that is given to you for following me”.  Mat 16:24 ERV.

Like Jake, in the film “Revolver”, we have to discover that our enemy is ourselves (Id).

Unless we can overcome ourselves and turn to God to direct our lives, it will destroy our

souls.  At he end of the film, prominent psychologists, in their scientific lexicon describe

“the hidden part”.

“Ego is the worst confidence trickster we could ever imagine, because we don’t see it”. Dr.

Yoav Sattilo, Ph.D.  “The single biggest con is ‘I am you’. Dr. Steven C. Hayes Ph.D.  “The

problem is the ego hides in the last place you would ever look”. Dr. Peter Fonagy Ph.D.  “It

disguises your thoughts as it’s thoughts.  Your feelings as it’s feelings.  People have no clue

there is an ego”. Leonard Jacobson.  “To protect ones own ego, it knows no bounds.  It will

lie, steal, kill and do whatever it takes to maintain what we call ego boundaries”. Andrew

Samuels Ph.D.  “At first it is difficult for the mind to accept that there is something beyond

itself”. Dr. David Hawkins M.D., Ph.D.  “Your greatest enemy is your own inner perception

your own ego”. Dr. Obadiah S. Harris Ph.D.  “In religion, it manifests itself as the Devil.  Of

course, no one realizes how smart the ego is, because it created the Devil so you can blame

someone else.  There is no such thing as an external enemy, no matter what that voice is

telling you.” Dr. Deepak Chopra, M.D.

“Brethren, let every man, wherein he is called, therein abide with God”.  1Co 7:24 KJV.

“For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that

overcometh the world, even our faith”. 1Jn 5:4 KJV.

In the Book of Revelation, blessings are pronounced to the seven churches “that

overcometh”.  “He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he

shall be my son”. Rev 21:7 KJV.

This is Kabbalah, the concealed part.  “There is a new day rising.  My church will no longer

stumble along in darkness.  I will give new illumination to the path you will be walking.

The hour draws near to a new awakening upon the earth.  Prepare thee the way of the

“And, behold, there are last which shall be first, and there are first which shall be last”

Luk 13:30 KJV.

“I know thy works, and charity, and service, and faith, and thy patience, and thy works;

and the last to be more than the first. Rev 2:19 KJV.

“And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony;

and they loved not their lives unto the death”. Rev 12:11 KJV.
